TSAR FAIRY TALE INTERNATIONAL THEATRICAL FESTIVAL

The 16th International Theatre Festival "Tsar Fairy Tale" is held in Veliky Novgorod from October 8 to 12, 2021. The festival has established itself as one of the leading theatrical events of Veliky Novgorod, has become its cultural brand and is one of the oldest Russian theatre festivals for young viewers. The festival has been held every two years since 1992 by the "Maly" Novgorod Theatre for Children and Youth. In 2021, the festival first changes its format, viewing it as the spirit of time, when for the safety of the audience and theatres, festivals must have a virtual component which will expand the horizons of perception of the theatre. The foreign online program features theatre companies from Germany, France, China, Switzerland, Latvia, South Africa and Indonesia. The festival poster is designed in such a way that performances are broadcast on www.kingfestival.ru from the start of the show until midnight Moscow time. Screenings of all virtual performances are free for the audience, so that the public from anywhere in the world can see the festival in Novgorod. This kind of festival format is also convenient for theatre festival directors who select theatres for future tours. In the world where many borders are closed because of the pandemic, this format becomes a sort of a professional fair of theatre works.

As part of the digital program, the festival even holds a special cultural project — "CANADA DAY" with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Russia. In addition to the program of theatrical performances for all ages of theatre lovers, the festival presents a series of projects of the Special Program, which seeks to deliver new knowledge to the audience. Every evening there are online broadcasts of the Discussion Club "Festival Talk" in the company of theatre critics, experts of the National Prize "Golden Mask" and "Arlequin", modern theatre researchers Julia Kleiman, Natalia Efendiyeva, Elena Gorfunkel, Anna Kazarina. After broadcast, the records are available to the audience in social media and on YouTube.
