A blog about food culture (mostly 19th century and today). The author shows the cultural practices associated with food that support (and some of them still do) genuine human values – a sense of community, tact, friendship, love, and creativity.

The project was created as notes in the margins of a PhD thesis. But over time it became a place for collecting notes on the cultural practices and value attitudes of people of the past and present in the food space. Using the historic materials, the author shows the cultural practices associated with food that support (and some of them still do) genuine human values – a sense of community, tact, friendship and neighborhood, love, beauty, and creativity.
The author deals with an important question – whether these practices can still exist today. The author is currently blogging and giving public lectures at the invitation of the city’s public libraries.
