Since 1839, St. Petersburg has become a place for Russia in which light painting is actively developing. It was in St. Petersburg that academician Yu. F. Fritzsche made the first scientific report on photography. Academician I. H. Gamel also brought here a device with accessories for the production of photographs using the Daguerre method and correspondence materials of two French inventors of photography, Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre, which served as the basis for further various studies in the field of studying the possibilities of photography. Later in St. Petersburg, the formation of famous masters took place: William Carrick, Andrei Karelin, Moses Nappelbaum and many others. Starting from the legacy of Leningrad photographers of the second half of the twentieth century, the project will develop in two directions, gradually including interesting representatives of modern photography and significant authors of the XIX century as a retrospective for the upcoming 200th anniversary of photography.
