Galerka VR digital platform was launched to mark the 30th anniversary of the Omsk Drama Theater which became a virtual meeting space of theater-goers.

Galerka VR digital platform was launched by creative team to mark the 30th anniversary of the Omsk Drama Theater.
It is difficult to digitalize theater, so it was decided to use media resources and create theater-related content with due regard to the online format forming a new trend of theater experience. The project is created by the theater team alone with no other specialists involved.
The platform is available on the Internet to anyone disregarding the place of residence. Just type "teatr-galerka.ru" in a search line of your browser and access the platform for free. The platform was launched on September 18, 2020 when the 31st theater season of Galerka theater started.

How did you come up with this idea?

The idea of creating a theater digital platform has been in the air for a long time. Due to a sudden change of priorities entailed by the pandemic, we had to find the new ways of communication with the audience as soon as possible. We wanted to create a project that would allow the actors of our theater to continue their work and remain accessible regardless of the situation in the world and the country. A team of like-minded and enthusiastic people was put together and in 1.5 months of daily work we created the Gallery VR platform.

What was the most difficult thing in your project?

The most difficult thing is to find time for everything. Our theater, has a busy schedule - from early morning until ... Rehearsals, premieres, events, rehearsals again - like in any repertory theater. It is difficult to digitalize the theater. So it was decided to use media resources and create theater-related content with due regard to the online format, i.e. new content where hi technologies and our theater's traditions are combined. This is a new side of our theater's activity.

Why do we need projects like yours? what is their value to people?

The main advantage of the theater entering the expands of the Internet is that we do not lose our audience, but get the new one. The one who could not afford to buy a ticket, or who lives in a remote outback, or who lives abroad, or, finally, the one who does not have the habit of going to the theater - we are sure we will hook this audience. Gallery VR is the first and one-of-a-kind virtual theater venue in our city. All the official communities of our theater and the official website provide links to the platform making it easy to find it. Therewith, it is an absolutely independent platform accessible to all Internet users.
